A fine mid to late 19th century navigators Sextant with the ladder frame design. Beautifully hand engraved on the arc Lilley & Son, London.
The silver scale is engraved from -5 degrees to 150 degrees and can measure angles to 133 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier, the silver Vernier scale reads from 0 to 10 seconds of arc.
This sextant has a 7.5 inch radius.
Box measures W 30 / D 28.5 / H 14 cm
This antique Sextant is in superb condition and is contained within its original hardwood box. It comes with four telescopes, one spare telescope sighting tube and one telescope sun filter.
The Directory of British Instrument Makers 1550 - 1851 by Gloria Clifton, lists Lilley & Son as making nautical instruments from two addresses in London between 1846 and 1913.
